Real Madrid will look to become the first team to defend the Champions League. Here’s how they will look while doing that.

Real Madrid will look to defend the Champions League title as well topple Barcelona to La Liga glory in their aim to dominate European football. Los Blancos, led by Zinedine Zidane, will take on Real Sociedad on 21st August in their first match in the La Liga. We take a look at the home and away jerseys Real Madrid will sport in the 2016-17 season.

Home Kit

Real Madrid have already unveiled the home jersey which, as always, is predominantly white but with some subtle changes from last season.

Manufactured by Adidas, the new home shirt will have a polo neck collar with a button placket.Real Madrid had previously used the polo neck in the 2010-11 campaign when they won the Copa del Rey title under Jose Mourinho. The polo collar also bears ‘Real Madrid’ written on the back.

The distinct change in the design is the introduction of the Adidas three stripes on the sides of the shirt instead of the traditional positioning on the sleeves. Purple is the colour of the stripes as well as the trim on the sleeves.

Describing the design, Adidas said: ‘Celebrate the storied history of Los Blancos in this men’s football jersey that honours the club’s 1902 beginnings.

‘The jersey Real Madrid players wear when they take the pitch at home, this slim-fit polo style is made with recycled mesh fabric and features club details on the back collar and chest.’

The Adidas logo, in purple, is on the right side of the chest. White shorts and white socks complete the home kit.

Away Kit

For the away kit, Adidas have adopted purple as the predominant colour which has been used many times in the past and is an homage to the club’s history.

Los Blancos’ first kit in 1902 had featured purple stripes and the crown in their logo also previously bore the purple colour. The new away jersey, taking inspiration from them, is all purple with highlights in white.

Unlike the home jersey, the Adidas three stripes are placed on the shoulders instead of the sides. The shirt comes in a white crew-neck collar with the shirt sponsor and the Adidas logo in the front also in white.

The purple shirt is teamed with purple shorts and purple socks with a white trim on the latter to complete the away kit.
